Largest Catholic Church in Istanbul…
First constructed in 1230 at another location in Galata, the original St. Anthony of Padua Church was built here in 1724 by the Italian and French merchants that called Istanbul home. The building you see today dates back to 1912. It is believed that forty thousand Italians lived in the city back then. Even today Italian priests run the church.
Saturday mass begins at 7pm and is in Italian. Sunday mass starts at 9:30am and is in Polish (English at 10:00am and Turkish at 5pm).
We like: Sculpture of Jesus outside the church.
