Last stop before the Grand Bazaar…
Has anyone told you that a hungry buyer doesn’t make a good negotiator? If you’re on your way to Kapalıçarşı, the Grand Bazaar, we recommend you make a stop at Tarihi Subaşı Lokantası to get fueled.
This is another “esnaf lokantası”, a shopkeepers’ locale, located a few steps away from the Kılıççılar Kapısı, one of the main gates of the bazaar. At this historic setting, Subaşı serves more than forty Ottoman and Turkish dishes since 1959 every day except Sunday.
Simply walk in and make a stop at the open kitchen to check the daily food before you sit at a table. Subaşı is famous for the mercimek çorbası (lentil soup), kuzu incik (lamb dish), iç pilavlı tavuk (chicken with rice) and hünkar beğendi (lamb stew served on eggplant puree). Enjoy!
Open for lunch. Closes at 4:30pm. Closed on Sundays.
We like: Hünkar beğendi (lamb stew served on eggplant puree).
